Introducing The Challenge

In the first "Around The World" adventure, I decided to follow the coastline of a randomly generated Minecraft world, planting stone blocks with torches on top along the edge of the land, in order to determine if I was on an island or the shore of a large lake. It took three months of real world time (playing perhaps 5 hours a week) before I made it back to where I had started - and my answer was: it was a lake. An enormous lake.

On my journey I had made many interesting discoveries and marked them for future investigation. I went back and explored these areas further, opening them up, building camps and settlements, and eventually joining some up with rail systems.

With the release (today) of Minecraft 1.8, I decided to repeat my experiment, and this time I would document my journey...
